Can I Visit Campus Before Committing? What Does a Campus Visit Look Like at Trinity School of Medicine?
At Trinity School of Medicine, we understand that every applicant approaches the decision-making process differently. For those who would like to experience the campus firsthand before making that commitment, we offer campus visits throughout the application process and reimburse up to $1,500 in eligible travel expenses if you ultimately matriculate.
Choosing a medical school is a major commitment. You should have the opportunity to see where you will study, meet the people who will support you, and get a feel for the community you may soon call home. During a campus visit, you can sit in on lectures, tour the facilities, meet with campus deans, and talk with current students about what life at Trinity is really like.
Campus visits are offered during select blocks of dates and arranged through your admissions counselor. Your counselor will help you find an available date and explain the travel reimbursement process before you make your plans.
Getting to Trinity’s Campus on St. Vincent
St. Vincent is easier to reach than you might expect, with direct flight options from several major North American cities, including Miami on American Airlines, Toronto on Air Canada, Atlanta on Delta, and New York on Caribbean Airlines. Travelers departing from other cities can connect through one of these hubs or through Barbados. Because some routes are seasonal, be sure to check current schedules before booking.
Trinity’s campus is located in the Ratho Mill district of Kingstown, which is just 15 minutes from Argyle International Airport. On the day of your visit, Trinity will provide transportation between your hotel and campus, so you can focus on experiencing the school rather than figuring out how to get there.
What to Expect During Your Visit to Trinity’s Campus
Trinity’s campus visits are designed to give you an accurate sense of what it’s like to live and study on St. Vincent. You will experience the academic environment for yourself and meet the people who help shape the Trinity community. During your visit, you will:
- Meet with Trinity’s deans
- Tour the campus and its facilities
- Attend medical school lectures
- Have lunch with a current student from Trinity’s welcome committee
- Have the opportunity to ask questions about academics, housing, student life, and anything else that’s on your mind
Attending a lecture can be particularly valuable, as it will let you see Trinity’s small-class learning environment in action, including how closely students and faculty interact and how comfortable students are asking questions. Over lunch, you can speak candidly with current students about coursework, faculty support, island life, and the transition to medical school. These experiences offer a more personal look at what your own day-to-day life at Trinity could be like.
See Where You Would Study and Live
Your visit to Trinity will allow you to tour the classrooms, laboratories, small-group learning spaces, and library where you would complete your basic sciences coursework. You will also see Trinity’s interactive Anatomage Table, which helps students explore human anatomy through detailed 3D models. Trinity’s campus also includes a cafeteria, gym, athletic courts, and spaces to study or spend time with classmates. You can also see Trinity’s furnished housing options on and near campus.
Just minutes away from campus is Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, Trinity’s 230-bed affiliated teaching hospital. Students begin gaining clinical experience there during their first term, connecting basic science concepts with patient care early in their education.
Experience Life on St. Vincent Beyond the Classroom
You will have plenty to look forward to during the 16 months you spend completing your basic sciences coursework on St. Vincent. A campus visit gives you a taste of the island you may soon call home, with beaches, hiking trails, sailing, lively local markets, and cultural destinations such as the St. Vincent Botanical Gardens all within easy reach.
Even a short visit gives you time to explore the area around Kingstown, experience the local community, and see what life could look like outside your studies.
