Understanding Your Medical School Loan
Save More Over the Life of Your Loan
These terms offer a meaningful advantage over both private and federal loan options. With no loan fees, an extended three-year grace period, and no capitalization of interest until the end of the grace period, the Sallie Mae Medical School Loan can help borrowers save thousands compared to other medical school financing options.
Financial Support During the Residency Process
Sallie Mae is the only loan provider that offers dedicated financial assistance specifically for the residency process. Its Global Residency Application and Relocation Program provides up to $30,000 to help cover board examination fees (Step exams), residency application fees, interview travel, and relocation expenses related to starting medical residency.
Med School Loan Application and Co-Signer Guidance
Students are encouraged to apply with a qualified co-signer, as this may result in a more favorable interest rate. Co-signers must meet applicable income and credit requirements. All loan applications are submitted electronically. Once accepted to Trinity School of Medicine and after submitting the initial commitment deposit, students may complete a loan application with Sallie Mae and/or one of Trinity’s other lending partners.
Your Credit Profile
It is advisable that students obtain their credit score from all three major credit bureaus to ensure their credit rating is based on the most current and accurate data. You’re entitled to one free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies. The only federally authorized source for for obtaining your free annual credit report is annualcreditreport.com.
