Recently, the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) hosted the algorithim-based process of aligning doctors with residency positions in the United States.  This competitive process, commonly known as "the Match," included over 52,000 applicants this year and amongst them were Trinity graduates from the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. The 2014 participants were vying for post graduate education positions which resulted in 25,687 matched applicants to first year positions. 

Students on the St. Vincent campus of Trinity School of Medicine, who are members of the American Medical Students Association (AMSA), journeyed to Georgetown on Sunday, 23rd March to deliver a quantity of items to the St. Benedict Orphanage and Day Nursery.

Students of the Dr. J. P. Eustace Memorial High and the Intermediate High Schools were, last week, given the opportunity to find out more about HIV/AIDS.  This was made possible as it formed part of an HIV/AIDS Outreach Programme undertaken by several students of Trinity School of Medicine. Three students: Afolami Fagorala, Cherelle Smith, and Sarah Celebi paid special visits to the Dr. J. P. Eustace Memorial High on Tuesday, 18^th February, and the Intermediate High on Friday, 21^st February with the mission of imparting information about HIV/AIDS to Third Form students of both secondary schools. The workshop began with a video presentation of cases of sexually transmitted infections, like gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia.  According to the facilitators, the main aim was to draw out reactions from the participants, in order to fully engage them in the subject matter.

Trinity School of Medicine has continued its on-going outreach programme to victims of the flooding disaster, heralded by the December 24th, 2013, weather trough system.   On Friday, 8th February, a team of officials from the school paid visits to two Emergency Shelters on the Leeward side of the island to distribute items of clothing and toiletries.  Medical supplies were also donated to the Chateaubelair Hospital.

How Do You Compare MD Programs?
You likely have a check list you use when evaluating schools with items such as Step 1 scores, Residency match success, finances and accreditation. Many reputable Caribbean medical schools will meet these requirements so go beyond the check list and determine what motivates you and in what type of environment you thrive. U.S. medicals schools have been modifying their curriculum to stress the importance of early clinical exposure. This is another aspect of Trinity School of Medicine's MD program that aligns with U.S. medical students' education, to preparing for clerkships and licensure in the U.S. and Canada.

When so much of your future rides on scores earned on the USMLE Step exams, it's important to have an advantage going into test time.  Because the competition for a Residency position includes US Medical school seniors as well as other International Medical Graduates (IMGs), just passing Step 1 isn't enough.

It's Interview Season.  This is the time of year that our Admissions team packs our suitcases and heads to major U.S. and Canadian cities to meet one-on-one with qualified applicants for the January, May and September 2014 start terms.
